Scribus-kirjan sisältö

Ne jotka eivät vielä ole tilanneet kirjaa Flesbooksista (Google Checkout), toivottavasti tekevät niin nähtyään kirjan sisällysluettelon. Ensimmäisestä kirjan hehkutuksesta unohtui maininta, että kirja on tehty Scribuksella – luonnollisesti. Kirjasta löytyvät seuraavat kappaleet:

Fontmatrix — Similar to Current feature

Fontmatrix just got this new nice feature where one can select a type face and FM will filter all the similar fonts. This video tries to show what’s it all about. Below is the original screenplay (needless to say the actual video became a way more boring).

Ennakkotilaa Scribus-kirja

Kattava kirja Scribuksen käytön avuksi on lähes valmis (438 sivua). Kirjaa voi tästä hetkestä lähtien ennakkotilata Flesbooksista hintaan 26,99 £ n.31 € (ilmainen postitus ennakkotilaajille). Arvioitu julkaisupäivä on 19.12. Jokainen myyty kirjaa tuo Scribus-projektille vähintään 12 £.

Kirja on syntynyt Scribus-yhteisön yhteistyönä. Sen tekijöinä on ollut kokeneita Scribus-käyttäjiä ja ohjelman kehittäjiä. Kirja kattaa Scribuksen vakaan haaran viimeismmän version (1.3.3.12) ja tulevatkin 1.3.3.x-haaran julkaisut. Kirja sisältää myös hyödyllistä tietoa värinhallinnasta, fonteista ja useasta muusta julkaisun tekoon liittyvästä aihealueesta.

Mainosta Scribukselle

Tänään Opeblogin vihjeen perusteella tein löydön, joka lämmitti mieltä jonkin verran. Uusin Kotimikro-lehti esittelee Scribusta urakalla. Lehdestä on Scribukselle omistettu peräti 8,5 sivua. Scribus ei tietojeni mukaan yhdessäkään toisessa lehdessä ole vielä saanut näin paljoa palstatilaa.

Jutussa rakennetaan lehdykkä golfkerholle. Vaativuustaso ei ole huima. Ohjeet on suunnattu ihmisille, jotka eivät Scribusta vielä tunne. Eräs merkittävä puute artikkelissa on. Se ei ohjaa käyttäjiä pidemmälle. Kaikki viitteet hyviin kotimaisiin Scribus-lähteisiin puuttuvat. Onhan tämä siitäkin huolimatta hieno asia etenkin, kun jutun aloittaa web 2.0 -tyylinen läpyskä, jossa lukee Loistava ohjelma!.

S&T: ”Scribus toimii”

Aiemmin olen kertonut, että Sivari & Totaali -lehti siirtyi vapaisiin ohjelmiin. Lehden teossa tärkeällä sijalla on juurikin taitto-ohjelma eli S&T:n tapauksessa Scribus.

S&T:n numerossa kaksi Simo Hellsten kertoo lehdentekokokemuksistaan ensimmäisen numeron valmistuttua.

Taittotyössä Linuxin puutteeksi usein lasketaan kyvyttömyys työskennellä painotyön vaatimassa neliväritilassa. Nyt voin kokemuksesta sanoa, että neliväryys onnistuu ilman suuria ongelmia.

Sivarin & Totaalin numero kaksi voi ladata pdf-tiedostona: S&T 2, 2,87 Mt. Juttu vapaista ohjelmista lehdenteossa löytyy sivulta 20.

Lehden numerossa 3 (pdf, 2,45 Mt) tarkastellaan vapaita kuvapankkeja ja kuvien lisensointia.
